Butterscotch Sauce

More velvety than a caramel sauce, and my favorite sundae topper! I was devastated when Dairy Queen decided to axe butterscotch sauce off the menu, but now I got it covered!

Butterscotch Sauce


For roughly 1 cup finished sauce

1/4 Cup Butter
1/2 Cup Brown Sugar
1/2 Cup Whipping Cream
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
1-1 1/2 Teaspoons Vanilla extract


Melt the butter in a medium sauce pan over medium heat.

Add the sugar, whipping cream and salt. Bring to just the boil and continue to heat and whisk boiling mixture for 5 minutes.

Remove sauce from heat, stir in vanilla. Whisk again to combine evenly.

Transfer to a container with a lid or a jar and chill completely.

Heat lightly in a microwave to soften and serve just warm over ice cream or any dessert.
